Wesley Bryant Morgan, 80, father, grandfather, Scouter, church leader, musician, teacher and aerospace scientist, left earth's orbit without the aid of the Saturn V rocket on Sunday, June 9, 2013. Wes was born of goodly parents, Albert Irvin and Tella Manning Morgan July 15, 1932 in Tremonton, Utah. As a youth he lived in Idaho and Spokane, WA. Upon graduation from high school, he enrolled in Eastern Washington College in Cheney, and joined an Air Force reserve unit which was called up to active duty almost immediately. Upon his release two years later, he enrolled at BYU where he met and married Nellie Borgeson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 26, 1953.
As there was no engineering program at the time at Brigham Young University, he transferred to the University of Washington. Upon receiving a BS and MS advanced degree, he joined the Boeing Company in Seattle, WA. Boeing became his principal employer for 36 years. During those years Wes, Nell and his family lived in Bellevue, WA, Huntsville, AL and Tuscaloosa, AL where he did advanced studies once more. He played important roles in the Apollo Space Program on the Saturn V rocket, design of heavy launch vehicles and then on the Space Station design.
After retiring, Wes and Nell moved to Provo where Wes taught part time at BYU, principally in the Capstone Program, and where they were temple ordinance workers in the Provo LDS Temple. Wes and Nell served a mission in the office of the Tampa, FL Mission from 1996 to 1998. In January 2000 they moved to Santaquin, UT to Nell's ancestral home, on which he set to work building an addition to the house with two friends.
When he moved to Santaquin, Wes immediately set to work as chairman of the City Spring Clean-up Week, was appointed to the Planning Commission and elected to the City Council. Wes was the leader of relocating and restoring a log cabin for the Daughters of Utah Pioneers which is now located by the city library. He also became an active member of American Legion Post 84.
Wes and Nell are parents of 10 children, 8 still living; Bryant (Linda), Andrea Densley (Jim), Karen Kamalu (deceased), Adrian (Kathy), Stephen (deceased) (Gigi), Tony (Robin), Heidi Crist (Jerry), Julia Wagner (Ross), Christopher (Leah), Carl (Annie). They are grandparents to 44 and great grandparents to 10. He is also survived by a sister, Beverly Wiser (Denzil) and a brother, Frank (Sharron). He was preceded in death by his parents, two above mentioned children and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 15th at 1:00 pm at the Santaquin North Stake Center, 545 North 200 East. A viewing will be held Friday from 6 to 8 pm at the Brown Family Mortuary, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin and Saturday at the church from 11 to 12:45 prior to services. Interment, Santaquin Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 84.
