Thelma York West, 88, of Santaquin, Utah passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 in Provo, Utah. She was born December 19, 1924 in Genola, Utah to Aaron LeVon and Gladys Finch York.
Thelma loved life and her family with a passion and excelled at everything she did. She was the quintessential pioneer woman; strong in will and industrious in all things, a true craftsperson at heart. From making quilts to firing ceramics to building dollhouses, to constructing legendary Santa Clauses, and even designing and building her own house at age 82, Thelma was never afraid to take any project on. Thelma loved her beautiful gardens, always working hard to make sure that the outside of her home was as stunning as the inside of her home. She loved to travel, eat good food, and to discover new antique stores to search for treasures.
Thelma married Jim West on August 8, 1943 in Genola, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She is survived by her children, Nola Gwen and William E. Dowse, David James and Kathryn West, William Don West and Tess A. Davis; grandchildren, Ryan David West, Richard James West, Adam Derrell West, Sarah Elizabeth Penberthy, and Nicholas Jones West; seven great grandchildren; brothers, Levon Douglas (Norma) York, Richard Lynn (Patsy) York; and sisters, Rose Mary (Elton) Draper, and Jeanette Gladys (Wayne) Parker. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Jim West; her parents; brothers, Carl Vern York and William Gene York and his wife Dorothy; daughter-in-law, Trina Tingey West; and a grandson, David Jason Hodgkinson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27th at 11:00 am at the Santaquin LDS 10th Ward, 260 South 580 East, where friends may call prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:45 am. Interment, Santaquin City Cemetery under the direction of Brown Family Mortuary, Santaquin.
