On January 5, 2024, the world lost a kind, generous, push-life-to-the limit soul. We watched him defy death so many times. We joked that he had nine lives, but have decided it may have been more like 15! Richard Jay (Rick) Greenhalgh passed away in Payson, Utah from complications of cancer. He was born on March 25, 1954 to Richard & Carol (Nuttall) Greenhalgh.
Blessed with a kind, friendly nature, Rick loved people, and spoke to everyone, making friends wherever he went. He lived life in the fast lane, with many interests and hobbies, trying everything. At only 3 years old, Dad built him a go-kart, and boy did he love that! He was wild and crazy on his bicycle as a youngster, which resulted in many bicycle accidents. He developed a love for motorcycles, cars (especially his Corvettes!), airplanes, scuba diving, water skiing, animals and football. Rick loved running and going to the gym (despite his sometimes uncooperative body) and had an insatiable interest in the internet.
Rick was a hard worker, and learned to run heavy equipment at an early age from his dad. When he was just out of high school he worked at the mines in Eureka where he was burned badly in a severe accident. His recovery was remarkable, with only a small scar on his chin to mark his brush with death. He then went on to work at Geneva Steel, and Utah Power & Light, as well as working for his brother Kirk’s Construction Co.
Rick had a long battle with addiction and illness. In 2015, while in remission, he was one of the first to go through the Payson temple after its dedication. For a long time he went weekly. Rick was a devoted son and spent many hours serving his mother as she aged.
Rick is survived by his mother Carol, and siblings Dave (Joyce) Lant, Debby (Jerry) Nelson, Brad (Lisa) Greenhalgh, and Kirk (Stacy) Greenhalgh. We know that Rick is in our Savior’s arms, finally resting from his earthly struggles, and that he will continue to serve and watch over our dear, sweet mom.
A celebration of Rick's life will be held Tuesday January 9, 2024 at 11:00 am at Brown Family Mortuary, 66 So 300 E Santaquin. The family will greet friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am prior to services. Interment, Santaquin City Cemetery.
