Penny Merlene Tanner

Penny Merlene Tanner, age 77 of Santaquin, passed away in the home that she was raised in, Friday January 10, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 9, 1946 in Payson, Utah to Berdell and Pearl Craig Greenhalgh.

Penny attended school in Santaquin and Payson. She grew up on a farm where she learned to love animals. She was an accomplished horse rider and rodeo queen in Santaquin and Spanish Fork.

She married Lynn Lerwill they later divorced. She married her sweetheart, David Reid Tanner July 10, 1981 in Payson, Utah and they were sealed in the Provo, Utah Temple. She was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her biggest accomplishments were her children. She was a fierce mama bear and loved deeply. We are lucky children. She was the best Grammie to her grandchildren and loved spending all the time she could with them.

Penny loved to be outdoors and gardening. She grew flowers and vegetables in her greenhouse for a lot of her family and friends. She had an immaculate yard and house. She enjoyed camping, hiking Timpanogos and Kings Peak in the Uinta’s, and many areas in Blanding, she loved Native Americans and their culture.

Penny worked at Rigtrips egg farm, Olson Greenhouse, and Payson Junior High Lunch while her grandkids were attending school there.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 43 years, David Reid Tanner; her favorite daughter, Brenda Lyn Warner; favorite son-in-law, Kelly Warner; favorite son, Troy Lynn Lerwill; her special Katie; her favorite grandchildren, Skyler Scott Haskell, Tia Marie Castillo, Heather Lyn Haskell; bonus granddaughter and family, Tiffany, Dustin, Kylee, Zack, Kallie, and Kaiden Peterson, her brother Bobby Greenhalgh, sister Peggie Johnson; many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents, Berdell and Pearl; brother Kendall; and her mother and father-in-law Bert and Lea Mae Tanner.

Family wishes to give special thanks to Paige Steele for helping our little warrior.

A celebration of Penny’s life will be held Friday January 17, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Brown Family Mortuary, 66 S 300 E Santaquin, Utah.
