Michael Julius Rosenberg, 78, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born on June 1, 1946, Mike was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His life was a testament to his resilience and passion for life.
Mike’s parents, Gerhard and Pauline Berg Rosenberg, were Holocaust survivors who immigrated to America in 1939. They were initially sent to Santiago, Chile, instead at the last minute, they were sponsored by a businessman in Seattle, Washington. His parents devoted their lives to their “miracle” son. Their strength and determination created the foundation for Mike’s lifelong career as a successful restaurateur. He owned two IHOP restaurants in the Seattle area. He also owned Mike’s Place Family Restaurant in Langley, Washington for over twenty-seven years. The restaurants were more than just a place to eat; they became a community hub where people gathered to share meals and stories.
Mike's love for bowling was legendary. He achieved the remarkable feat of scoring four perfect 300 games, which was a testament to his skill. His competitive spirit and sportsmanship earned him many trophies and lifelong friendships.
He was equally passionate about baseball, Mike pitched a couple of perfect pitched games, highlights in his life which he shared with evident pride. His love for the sport was a constant. Baseball was more than a pastime. He was even recruited into the Milwaukee Brewers as a pitcher for a short time. Later he coached Little League for many years in Seattle. Of course, he loved football Seattle Seahawks, basketball Seattle SuperSonics, ice hockey Seattle Krakens and the Seattle Mariners.
Mike's warmth, humor, and generosity touched everyone he met. He was always ready with a helping hand, or a hearty laugh. His family and friends will forever remember his encouragement and support he brought into young people’s lives; often it would be their first job.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Mary-Elizabeth; his children, Aaron Michael Rosenberg (Ohio), Jonas Daniel Rosenberg (Washington), and Daniel Adam Rosenberg (Washington). He is also survived by his three stepchildren Mark Alexander Williams (Virginia), Geniel Marie Ashcraft (Utah) Michael Jason Williams (Utah). He also leaves eleven (total combined) grandchildren. He will be missed. Mike’s ashes will be spread over the majestic Utah mountains.
