Leland Davenport

October 19, 1937 — February 14, 2022

Leland Dale Davenport, 84 of Genola Utah passed away at his home on February 14, 2022 to be reunited with his eternal Valentine.  Dale was born on October 19, 1937 to Leland Ladell Davenport and Carlie Callister in St. Anthony, Idaho. Dale moved to Torrey, Utah with his family when he was 7 years old and spent his growing up years working on his parents' sheep farm.

When Dale was 20 years old he joined the Army where he served for 3 years from 1957-1960. Upon his return home he was set up on a blind date with Jennie Lynne Bowler and the rest is history. He and Jennie Lynne were sealed in the Manti temple on May 20, 1961. They made their home in Genola, Utah where they resided for almost 60 years.

Dale was a hard worker, who always found a way to provide for his family. He worked in construction, mining, a fruit farm, and eventually retired from BYU in their custodial department, all while owning a farm of his own that he took great pride in. He taught his children the importance of hard work by having them help on the farm with milking the cows, changing the sprinkler pipe and hauling the hay along with many other everyday tasks. Along with the work he found ways to have fun and be involved with his children. When they were little he would give them rides on his feet, and let them give him makeovers. He was always up to taking a buddy with him when he went into town, and the trip would usually end with a drink, a candy bar, or some other treat.

Dale was a gentle giant with a giant heart! He was willing to help whomever was in need. Whether that was rescuing a child with a broken down car on the side of the freeway, giving rides to his children to their various activities, or helping on a house project, he was always there.

Dale knew the responsibility of a large family, and did whatever he could to ease the burden on Jennie Lynne. He always made breakfast on Saturday mornings with foods including pancakes, waffles, eggs, homemade hot chocolate and toast. As the children got older and some moved away he extended this tradition to making breakfast every morning.

Dale was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served in many callings. Some of his favorites were serving as Elders Quorum President and working in the Provo Temple as an ordinance worker. He has endured many trials in his life where his faith has carried him and strengthened him to become the man he is.

Dale is survived by his Children: Christie (Alma) Leavitt, Michelle (Mike) Johnston, LaRinda (Trent) Taylor, Hyrum (Jennifer) Davenport, Mathew Davenport, Charles (Tonja) Davenport, Beth Hanger, Preston (Christy) Davenport, Aaron (Natalie) Davenport, Cecilia (Jason) Segedy, Linnea (Romney) Davis, Spencer (Carrie) Davenport, 50 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren plus 1 due next month,  as well as his sisters Carla May Lyman and Ardeen (Seth) Chappell.

He is  preceded in death by his sweetheart, Jennie Lynne Davenport, along with his parents, LeLand and Carlie Davenport, brothers LaVell, Varlo and Vernon Davenport, twin sisters who died at birth and Son in law Eric Hanger.
