JoAnn Miller Mecham

JoAnn Miller Mecham, our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024. JoAnn was born on October 22, 1945 in Berkeley, California to Oral May Hiatt. Joann was later adopted by Frances Marie Hiatt and Albert Miller.

JoAnn moved around a lot as a child but always called Libby, Montana home. JoAnn lived for a short time in Kamiah, Idaho where she graduated high school. It was in Kamiah that she met her future husband, Frank Mecham. Frank was serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christof Latter Day Saints when they met. After Frank came home from his mission, in February 1966, Frank returned to see JoAnn. They dated for a short time and were married in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple on April 15, 1966. The sealing ordinance was performed by LeGrand Richards. However later, they divorced in 1983. But not before having seven children together.

JoAnn had so much love for her family. She was so friendly to everyone. You could be standing in a line anywhere and by the time you got checked out you were now JoAnn's new best friend and had exchanged phone numbers. JoAnn had a big soft heart and it showed as she loved everyone and gave everything she had. JoAnn never had many worldly possessions to share but what she did have was shared with those she loved.

JoAnn was a great mother and a true friend. She loved to cook and was a great cook. She taught all her children how to work hard. She also enjoyed having fun and she loved to go dancing. JoAnn had a love for animals. She especially loved dogs. She even brought Tammy, her dog with her when she married Frank. Throughout JoAnn's life, she found comfort and love from these dogs, right down to her last dog named Shylee.

Through all JoAnn's trials in life she still stayed true to her faith in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. JoAnn knew the church is true and JoAnn could often be heard bearing her testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel.

JoAnn Mecham (Mom) will be missed but will always be remembered for her kind loving heart.

JoAnn is survived by her seven children. Jay (Traci) Mecham, April May, Tamara (Brandon) Braithwaite, Troy (Lacey) Mecham, Brad (Lindsey) Mecham, Michael (Marie) Mecham, Shane (Cortney) Mecham, 33 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

On behalf of the Mecham Family, we would like to thank all the kind caregivers, friends, and family who took great care of our Mom (Jo Jo) as she was called at Seasons of Santaquin, where she has spent the last 4 plus years. Richard Porter and his staff have taken great care of JoAnn.
