Joan Sharon Mitchell Nelson, age 88, passed away January 27, 2024 at her home in Goshen, Utah. Joan was born November 3, 1935 in Burley, Idaho to Max Ernst of Clinton, Utah and Phyllis Green Mitchell of Kanesville, Utah. She lived most of her younger life in Clinton before moving to Nyssa, Oregon and later to the Owyhee Junction where she graduated from Adrian High School.

On the 9th of October, 1958 she married the love of her life, Russell Reid Nelson in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had four children. Reid passed away November 16, 2023.

Joan was a strong, independent lady. In her lifetime she had survived Polio and overcame cancer four times. Joan was an avid crocheter and loved to make gifts for friends and family. She loved playing card games, reading, camping and growing an amazing garden that she shared with everyone. Joan loved her grandkids and was always there for them. She was very forgiving and always had a listening ear for anyone who needed to talk.

Joan leaves behind her children, Lyle Reid of Eureka, Craig Max of Tooele, Russell Dean of Centerfield and Annette (Scott) Bergera of Santaquin; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; her sisters, Karen Fife of Nyssa, Oregon and Lynette (Milt) Hansen of Price. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a grandson and a brother-in-law.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Brown Family Mortuary in Santaquin on Monday, February 5th from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Goshen Cemetery at 2:30 pm. No other services will be held at Joan's request.
