James L. Corry passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully, surrounded by his family. To know Jim was to love him. Dad lived his life as the Savior Jesus Christ asked. He loved his family and that was his greatest legacy.
He always tried to ease the pain and burdens of those around him even when he was experiencing these same pains and burdens. Dad was doing what he did best until he stepped away from his mortal journey and into the loving embrace of his family on the other side of the veil, which was comforting his sweet and eternal companion Karla.
Dad was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the West Central States. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Karla Johnson, in the Manti temple and started their family. Dad went to college at SUU and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Dad worked many jobs throughout his life and sometimes more than one to provide for his family. He worked at IPSC in Delta, Utah for many years and while working there became a trusted and respected coworker to many men and women. They often would go to him for advice, and they gave him the nickname “Papa Jim” because he was the perfect person to give fatherly advice. Dad loved people and he saw everyone he came in contact with as friends. When he had a work accident that left him physically challenged, he never let that stop him from persevering and learning to walk, write and drive again.
Dad was a fierce defender of his faith. He taught the gospel in such a way that you never felt preached at but loved unconditionally. He loved to laugh and had such a fun sense of humor. We could hear him laughing out loud at his British comedies.
Dad’s greatest passion was his family and especially his wife, Karla. He did everything he could for her, even when he was out of strength. Dad was completely and eternally in love with mom. He taught us children how to love and respect her and others. Dad, you have left an enormous hole in our hearts, but we know you are still providing for your family and will continue to do so. Dad, we love you! Thank you for being our friend, example, hero and most importantly, our beloved father. We will see you again but until then you had better get started on mom’s mansion you promised her. This is not goodbye but see you later.
Jim is survived by his wife, Karla; their children, Roger (Heather) Corry, Karlene (James) Stanley, Julie (John) Beebe, SaraLynn (Justin) Smith, Brent Corry, Jay (Amanda) Corry, Mathew (Tosha) Corry, Mary (Josh) Underhill, Krystal (Casey) Webb; 46 grandchildren, 13 and soon to be 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 18th at 11:00 am at the Santaquin North Stake Center, 545 North 200 East. Viewings will be held at the church on Thursday, April 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the services. Interment will follow in the Santaquin City Cemetery.
