Jake Arthur Sorensen

Jake Arthur Sorensen of Goshen Utah, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at his home after a valiant battle with cancer. Heaven just got a little more interesting and life down here will never be the same.

He was born the only child of Waldo and Myrtle Sorensen on November 29, 1942. He was raised in Goshen where he grew up farming with his parents. He attended Payson High School where he met life-long friends, and enjoyed playing basketball, football, and running track. He was captain of the basketball team, an honor student and Senior Class Vice President.

Upon graduation he went to Utah State University where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering and also earned a professional engineer certificate. In 1966, Jake married Diana Trotter.  They had three children Bret, Stephenie and Lizzy. Jake began his career working for General Electric in Phoenix, AZ and Pittsfield, MA.

Wanting to raise his family in Utah, he moved to Orem, where he worked as a mechanical engineer at Geneva Steel for 28 years, with a brief stint working for Morton Thiokol. Jake was proud to have two patents registered to his name. In 1993, he retired.

He spent the remaining part of his life enjoying the people he loved and wanted to instill in them a love of learning and to always believe in themselves.

In 1996, he married Marla Snow and became a dear friend and biggest admirer of Marla’s children: Bill, Lindsay, Aubrey, and Chelsea. And together they built a life they both loved.

Jake was the picture of integrity, respect, honesty and love. He had a special place in his heart for the land and was proud to have dirt under his fingernails and on the back of his neck. He had no time for hobbies as he was tied to the land he farmed and loved. He had an uncanny ability to find happiness in his daily activities.

He wasn’t quiet, but he also was very serious and didn’t like foolishness.  If you needed him to help, he was there. He touched many in his lifetime and will be greatly missed by all who knew him (including his favorite dog ACE-a-ROO).

He loved the Lord and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.  “Well done good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21

Jake was a truly unforgettable man.  May God bless his wife and family during their time of grieving.
