Gregory Fowkes

J. Gregory Fowkes, age 71, fifth generation and life-long resident of Santaquin, Utah passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. He was born on March 10, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gerald V. and Elma A. (Tietjen) Fowkes.

Greg attended elementary school in Santaquin and graduated from Payson high school where he enjoyed theatre arts. He became very adept at technical theatre, lighting, and stage management before attending Brigham Young University. While Greg served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sacramento, California his talents were put to good use working on pageants and displays for outdoor fairs.

He was a skilled and licensed electrician and talented decorator. The combination of technical and artistic skills laid the foundation for a successful business in which he created elaborate lighted displays and decorations for various venues and events. Always curious, he loved to travel to countries all over the world. Greg was generous, caring for widows and extending a hand-up to many people in need. More than anything, Greg was a friend who made the world better by his kindness. He is missed.

Greg is survived by his brother Stephen Fowkes of Sandy, Utah; Nephews Jason Button (Nicole), Mike Fowkes (Kim), Gerald Fowkes (Becky), Jeff Preston (Dorie); his niece Jesica Button Mickelsen (Mark); his cousin, Terry Giovanini-Davis; and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald V. and Elma A. (Tietjen) Fowkes; sisters Rebecca ‘Becky’ Fowkes Preston and Victoria ‘Vicki’ Fowkes Button; sister in-law Rene’e Cowley Fowkes as well as his niece, Stephanie Fowkes Rhoton.
