Gary (Dewey) Lynn Johnson, 78, of Salem, Utah, loving husband, father and friend returned to the arms of his Heavenly Father on February 7, 2023. A life well loved and lived.
Gary was born November 25, 1944 to Norris Ray Johnson and Madge Amy Daley in Payson, Utah. He married his sweetheart, Joan Cloward on February 22, 1968 in the Manti Utah LDS Temple.
He graduated from Spanish Fork High school in 1963 and then joined the National Guard. He retired as a millwright from Geneva Steel after 35 years.
He had a great love for his family and enjoyed all family gatherings. His kids and grandkids were the pride of his life. He lived a life of service and was quick to help anyone in need.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed his many fishing trips to Strawberry with his friend Joe and many horse rides (adventures) on the mountain.
He enjoyed puttering on his farm and in his garden. This past September he enjoyed spending a week on the mountain elk hunting with his sons, son-in-law and grandson.
He his survived by his wife, Joan and children: Shane (Natalie) Johnson; Jana (Darin) Hone; Anne (Marcos) Alva; Brent (Nicole) Johnson; and Emily (Jeff) Paxton, as well as 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Ray (Marilyn) Johnson; Loralee Johnson (sister-in-law); Kent Johnson; Maureen (Wayne) Hurst and Clifford (Kathy) Johnson. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Stephen and grandson Randy Aylsworth.
There will be a viewing on Sunday, February 12, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at LDS Stake Center on 470 East Canal Road, Salem, Utah. There will also be a viewing on Monday, February 13th from 9:30 - 10:45 am at the same location with funeral services following at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
