Fred Garbett, age 73 of Eureka, Utah passed away April 27, 2014. He was born April 14, 1941 in a train car in a hollar in Eureka, Utah. He grew up in Eureka and lived there all of his life. He was very popular and touched nearly everyone he ever met in a positive way. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved camping with his family.
During his lifetime he worked at the Dragon mine, Tintic High School, The Burgin, Union Pacific Railroad, Dugway Proving Ground and Eureka City Corporation. He was Mayor of Eureka, on the City Council and at the end of his career retired from Eureka City as the City Manager. Fred was a long time Elk, a member of the fire department, Fire Chief, an EMT and was a proud member of the Utah Fire Fighter's Association for 50 years. He loved being able to look out of the window in any direction and see his beautiful mountains.
Fred is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lola Frances Long Garbett; son, Fred (Kathy) Garbett; daughter, Della (Mike Gibson) Estrada; 7 grandkids and 5 great grandkids; a brother, David (Ann) Garbett, Jr, and a sister, Shirley Schena. He was preceded in death by his dad, David Garbett, mom, Mary Alice Huff Garbett, sister, Joyce Garbett Sorensen, brother, Dwain Garbett and a baby sister, Mary Marie Garbett.
He loved his daily trips to the Post Office and his wit and humor will be missed by all who ever met him.
At Fred's request, there will not be a formal viewing. A graveside service will be held at the Eureka City Cemetery on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. All who would like to attend are invited.
