Veda to her friends, Dr. Smith to her students and colleagues, Eggbeater to her nieces and nephews, Elveda Smith died on May 28, 2016 at the age of 81. She was the youngest child born to Thomas Brigham and Mary Ivine Ashby Smith on February 18, 1935 in Santaquin, Utah.
She graduated from Payson High School, Utah State University in Logan with a Bachelor of Science in Family Life, and earned a Master of Science degree in 1961 and Doctor of Philosophy 4 years later, both from Oregon State University in Corvallis. She was head of the Food and Nutrition Department at San Jose State in California. She loved California and lived there for over 50 years. Veda returned to Santaquin, Utah in poor health and lived at the Seasons of Santaquin Care Center where she received devoted care and love.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 4th at 11:00 am at the Santaquin Cemetery, 100 East 300 South. There will be a short viewing at Brown Family Mortuary, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin from 10:00 to 10:45 am prior to the service.
