Darlene Persson Kay of Payson, UT passed away from complications of a stroke on August 16, 2022, in Oceanside, CA.
Darlene was born Dec. 21, 1928, to Rhoda Jameson and Charles Wesley Persson, in Eureka, UT. She was raised partially by her grandparents, Charles and Alice Jameson, whom she adored.
She graduated from Tintic High School. Darlene moved to Salt Lake as a young woman where she worked for Utah Power & Light. She later lived in Spanish Fork and Payson for many years. She recently moved to Casa Grande, Arizona and later Oceanside, CA to be closer to her daughters.
Darlene married Daryl Kay on Aug. 17, 1957. They celebrated 57 anniversaries together, enjoying gardening, travel, spending time with family, eating good food, camping and fishing.
Darlene loved sports and being outside. She ran track in school, coached her daughter, Sandra’s, softball teams and enjoyed hiking. Darlene loved bowling and played in bowling leagues most of her adult life. She outplayed everyone in the family.
She enjoyed traveling, laughter, reading, music, volunteering, and needle crafts. She loved to attend opera and theatre with her daughter, Toni.
Darlene was a strong woman who raised strong women. She adored and was adored by her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Darlene leaves a legacy of family spread throughout the United States including daughters Toni (John) Mullarky of Casa Grande, AZ; Sandra (Andy) Riggins of Carlsbad, CA; grandchildren Kelbie (John) U’ren of Houston, AK; Cody (Hillary) Wall of Victorville, CA; Kei Riggins (Josh Wallace) of Los Angeles, CA; and Drex Riggins of Austin, TX; great grand-daughters Addilyn Wall and Harper U’ren; siblings Beverly (Jerry) Elton; Larry (Shirley) Bell and Phil (Kim) Persson.
Funeral Services will be September 8, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at Brown Family Mortuary, 66 South 300 East Santaquin with a brief visitation from 11:00 - 11: 30. Burial will be in the Santaquin City Cemetery.
