Cleo Edwards Carter, 80, surrounded by her family, returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Cleo was born on September 23, 1943 in Charleston, Utah to Elmer Edwards and Orpha Kay Edwards. She was the youngest of five children.
Cleo attended schools in Wallsburg, Charleston, and Heber; and graduated from Seminary and Orem High School in June 1961. She received a scholarship to the Salt Lake Trade Technical Institute to study nursing. Soon after, she met the love of her life, Delos Carter. They dated a short time and were married on February 20, 1962. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 19, 1967.
Cleo and Delos were blessed with nine children, five daughters and four sons. They made their home in Provo, working on the family farm and raising their children.
In 1980, both Cleo and Delos were asked to serve on the Utah County Dairy Commission and Cleo served for several years as the Dairy Wives President. Then in 1985, they purchased their own dairy farm in Genola, Utah. Together with their children, they built a successful dairy business. Cleo was the Chief Financial Officer, lunch lady, pants patcher, hug giver and every job in between. The job she enjoyed the most was being a Mom, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Cleo was a very loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She touched many lives with her kindness, love, and wisdom.
Cleo enjoyed serving the community on the Genola Planning Commission for ten years.
She was a lifelong active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served valiantly in many callings throughout her life. She had a deep love for our Savior Jesus Christ.
Cleo loved to play games and was very competitive. She especially loved to play Yahtzee and card games with her kids and grandchildren. She enjoyed hosting holiday parties around Easter and Christmas. The parties always involved fun games and gifts for everyone.
Cleo enjoyed sewing, quilting, shopping, gardening, and going to the movies. She had many talents. She could work “magic” on her sewing machine, making dresses, Halloween costumes, and a lot of beautiful quilts for family and friends. She was an excellent cook and everyone was welcome at her table. She always made the most delicious pies, sharing them with family, friends, and neighbors.
Cleo is survived by her children, Karen (Kenyon) Currie, Gwen (Tyley) Perkins, Peggy (Ron) Gregory, Donna Gurule, Boyd (Tina) Carter, Blaine (Amy) Carter, Brent (Holly) Carter, Barbara (Tom) Taylor, Adrie Carter; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren; her sisters Eva Herrick and Marva Latimer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delos, her son Bryce, her parents Elmer and Orpha Edwards, sister Mary Jean Edwards, and brother Allen Edwards.
The family would like to thank Bonnie, Holly and other staff of I Care Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
