Cindy Gerow

Linda “Cindy” Susan Christiansen Gerow passed away peacefully June 20, 2024 at age 74. Cindy was relieved of pain and went to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father.

She was born to Raymond and Marjorie Christiansen on June 21, 1949 in Lehi, Utah. She grew up in Enoch, Utah with 4 brothers and 1 sister. She graduated from Cedar City High in 1967. She started collage at what is now SUU for two years and finished her Bachelor of Science in Family Life and Child Development at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

Cindy had a son in 1971 and placed him for adoption. She was able to meet Sam Blackham for the first time in December 2023. She was so thrilled she could meet him.

Cindy met and fell in love with Orville Gerow, and they were married on April 19, 1974. She then received a bonus daughter in Jennifer (Gerow) Nielson a couple of days later. Her new family moved around a bit fixing up houses and selling them.

Cindy loved to sew and worked making various items like sleeping bags and piece goods for many years. She was quick and accurate which allowed to help Orville complete his schooling. They moved to Springville and had two more children, Chelsie (Gerow) Harney in 1976 and Donald Gerow in 1978. They moved to Elk Ridge in the early 80’s, and finally settled in Goshen, Utah in 1987.

She loved to help Orville on the farm in Goshen and loved seeing the new baby calves being born and kicking their heels once they had grown. Cindy continued her love of sewing by making a lot of her children’s clothing and making clothing for their dolls. She was always sewing something, either helping neighbors make curtains, helping Orville repair torn clothing or by making intricate quilts. She also loved making jewelry and made almost everyone she knew a piece they absolutely loved. Cindy stayed home to take care of the family until the kids were a little older and then found a job she loved making wedding dresses. She also worked at The Fabric Shop in Spanish Fork.

In 1991 she decided to go back to school to get her nursing degree. She finished her LPN at UVCC (now UVU) and finished her RN at SLCC. She worked as an RN at Utah Valley Hospital for 10 years and then at Dan Peterson and Oakridge schools as a school nurse. She loved working with all those special “kiddos”.

Cindy was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints and served in many positions including Primary Chorister (her favorite), Young Women President, Primary Presidency, and Ward Chorister. She loved to sing and had a beautiful Alto voice. Cindy had a love of all music and always had a song in her heart and was always humming something.

Cindy retired from work at age 65 and loved to visit with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whether it be at their homes or on vacations. She has always loved the color purple and even colored her hair purple the last couple of years of her life. She loved Eeyore and sloths and considered them her spirit animals.

She loved all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and would always sit and talk to them. Cindy loved to take pictures of the family. There are many candid pictures of the family on her phone as she loved to take pictures of us as we were doing various activities.

Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Marjorie, son Don, and granddaughters Alexis, Miranda (Mark Carlisle), and great-grand daughter Brynlie Nelson. She is survived by her siblings, Frank Christiansen (Jane), Mark Christiansen (Debbie), Irene “Teena” Taylor (Robert), David Christiansen (Connie), and Lee Christiansen (Deb); her husband Orville Gerow, daughters Jennifer (Jared Nielson), Chelsie (Michael Harney) and son Sam Blackham. Her grandchildren, Christian (Shelby Johnson), Jessica (Trevor Nelson), Megan (Joseph Chatham), Raegan Lee, Connor Nielson, and Victoria Nielson. Great-grand babies are: Kamrun Carlisle, Andrew Nelson, Hailey Nielson, Oliver Nelson, Hunter Nielson, Evelyn Chatham, McKenna Nelson, and Hazel Nielson.
